A missed period, nausea, and fatigue can all make you wonder if you’re pregnant. There are many common symptoms that can be signs of an early pregnancy, but could also point to other issues like high stress, hormonal changes, or weight gain or loss.
Here are some of the common pregnancy symptoms that may be an indication you’re pregnant. Remember, you can’t know for sure unless you take a pregnancy test, so if you think you might be pregnant, schedule a free appointment with us today!
Early Pregnancy Symptoms
Late or Missed Period
The first telltale sign you might be pregnant is a late or missed period, especially if your cycle is usually very regular. You may be panicked and feel pressure to take a test right away, but it’s best to wait until at least a week after you’ve missed your period to get the most accurate results. Your cycle can also be thrown off by unusually high levels of stress, hormonal changes, lack of sleep, or more.
Tender or Swollen Breasts
Another common sign of pregnancy is changes to your breasts. During pregnancy, your body goes through many changes in preparation for birth and this is one. As the pregnancy progresses, your breasts will change and grow, causing them to feel tender or sore.
Food Aversions or Cravings
As your body changes, your appetite, cravings, and aversions for certain foods might change as well. If you suddenly start craving foods you’ve previously disliked or feel nauseous thinking about eating foods you’ve always loved, pregnancy hormones could be at fault. These changes may be most pronounced in the first trimester but can last the whole pregnancy.
Nausea and Vomiting
The hormones causing food cravings and aversions can also be the culprit behind feelings of nausea and/or vomiting. Commonly known as “morning sickness,” these feelings are often strongest in the first trimester, but can sometimes last throughout the pregnancy to varying degrees. Every woman experiences it differently and sometimes experiences it differently for each pregnancy.
Fatigue
Because your body goes through so much transformation during pregnancy, you should expect to feel tired! If you find yourself wanting to take more naps or it’s hard for you to get through an entire work or school day without feeling exhausted, this could be a sign of pregnancy.
Mood Swings
All the changes your body goes through during pregnancy can cause you to feel all over the place emotionally. This can be especially unsettling if you don’t typically have big mood swings, but know it’s a common experience during pregnancy. Again, these can be most pronounced during the first few months of pregnancy, but can also change throughout your pregnancy.
Am I Pregnant?
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, you might be pregnant. But it’s important to remember that these can also be symptoms of other stresses or changes in your body, so don’t draw conclusions too quickly.
