Wow! You never thought you’d be in this place. You’ve discovered you’re unexpectedly pregnant and not sure what you should do next. Take a deep breath. You can face this and we can help you.
As you consider what to do, get all the information you can about your options. You want to be able to say to yourself and others, “I thought about it, researched my choices, and made the best decision that was right for me.”
First Things First
To be truly confident with your choice, you need to do three things first. This information will help you move forward.
1. Take a Free Lab-Quality Pregnancy Test
At the Pregnancy Center, our tests have a 99% accuracy rate. Even if you took an at-home test, you should get the results confirmed with one of our free lab-quality pregnancy tests.
Your confidential peer counselor will ask a few questions about your last period and walk you through the correct process to get the most accurate result possible.
Many women panic when they think they’re pregnant. As a result, they take the pregnancy test too early or don’t follow the directions carefully. Besides, at the Pregnancy Center, the tests are free so you have nothing to lose!
2. Get a Free Ultrasound Scan
If you get a positive result on your pregnancy test, your next step will be a free ultrasound scan. It seems like a positive pregnancy test should be all you need, but if you’re considering abortion, you need the information that only an ultrasound can provide.
First, you’ll learn how long you’ve been pregnant. The number of weeks determines what type of abortion you could have. If you’re 10 weeks and 0 days, you would qualify for a medical abortion. If you’ve been pregnant longer than 10 weeks, you’d have a surgical abortion.
You’ll also learn if your pregnancy is growing or if you’ve had a miscarriage. The Mayo Clinic says up to 20% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. You could still receive a positive pregnancy test result but already have miscarried.
Finally, an ultrasound will show you where your pregnancy is located. Sometimes it will begin developing outside of the uterus. This is called an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. If that’s the case, you’ll need to seek medical attention immediately.
3. Review Your Options Before Abortion
Did you know you have other choices besides abortion? In order to be completely confident about your decision, you should learn about all of your options.
Once again, your confidential peer counselor will sit with you and talk about your future
plans and how we can help you achieve them. There are so many resources available. Let’s chat about the best option for you.
